Letter From Mrs. Calero - WASC Mid-Cycle Review
Dear Families and Students,
North Monterey County High School underwent a WASC accreditation visit, following an extensive self-study in the spring of 2014, by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC). On July 4, 2014, NMCHS was granted accreditation through June 30, 2020 with a two day mid-cycle visit. The two day mid-cycle visit is scheduled for March 6 th and March 7th of 2017. School-wide critical areas for followup were identified and a school-wide action plan that addresses those critical needs was developed. The mid-cycle progress report and visit should demonstrate that the school has:
Addressed the critical areas for follow-up through implementation of the schoolwide action plan
Improved student achievement relative to the schoolwide learner outcomes and academic standards
The ACS WASC accreditation process fosters excellence in elementary, secondary and adult education by encouraging school improvement. WASC accreditation recognizes schools that meet an acceptable level of quality, in accordance with established, research-based WASC criteria.
Certification to the public that the school is a trustworthy institution of learning
Validates the integrity of a school’s program and student transcripts
Fosters improvement of the school’s programs and operations to support student learning
Assures a school community that the school’s purposes are appropriate and being accomplished through a viable educational program
A way to manage change through regular assessment, planning, implementing, monitoring and reassessment
Assists a school/district in establishing its priority areas for improvement as a result of the perpetual accreditation cycle that includes o School self-assessment of the current educational program for students
o Insight and perspective from the visiting committee
o Regular school staff assessment of progress through the intervening years between full self-studies.
The full Mid-Cycle Report is posted on the school web site for your review, or you can attend our Parent Community Meeting on February 22, 2017 where the topic will be the WASC mid cycle review.
NMCHS WASC mid cycle visit will take place Sunday, March 5 th through Tuesday, March 7th . WASC Visiting committee members are interested in hearing from parents and community members on Sunday, March 5th at 5:00pm in the Library Media Center.
